2024 TIBERIAN SUN VETERAN BALANCE STRATEGY GUIDE
MAP TERRAIN FEATURES, ADVANTAGES, DISADVATAGES
Map size and tiberium amount can affect your strategy. Some tactics work better on small maps like rushes for example.
Avoid thick forests when driving your vehicles away from plane attacks. The tanks have to go around the trees and it slows them down.
Killing trees with tanks or burning them with devil tongues leaves more room to build stuff (CNTL force fire on the tree). Destroying civilian buildings accomplishes the same thing.
Walking units (Titans Wolverines) are not slowed as much by rough terrain as wheeled units.
Heavy vehicles can fall into ice on ice maps. If you walk onto a piece of ice that is cracked, you will crack it a second time and fall in the water. It takes 2 cracks to break the ice. It cracks when you drive heavy vehicles over it like a ticktank, titan, artillery, etc....
Broken ice terrain can freeze back over in pre-determined areas on the map.
One Sensor Array + one devil Tongue = Engineer defense. Follow the enemy SubAPC with your Devil Tongue and flame the Engineers when they exit the vehicle.
Hover Mrls and Amphibiuos APC can hide in the water terrain near cliff edges and bridge shadows. They are good at attacking from water, where many units like infantry can not reach them.
You can hide units on small islands in the water that hardly ever get scouted on some maps. Artillery are great for this because they have a long range. A spare MCV could also be sent there. Stealthing units on these islands makes it even harder to find. (If you have both technologies)
Several types of units can fall into broken Ice terrain. (MCV, Tick Tank, Mobile Sensor Array, Mobile Repair Vehicle, Artillery, Stealth Tank, Devil Tongue, SubAPC, Disrupter, Mammoth Mk2.)
The Subterranean APC can not surface in Ice Terrain, just like it can't surface in water terrain. The SubAPC will go to the nearest shore instead.
If you stop a unit on broken ice terrain, it will not fall in.
Land a Carryall on a stopped unit, on top of broken ice, to safely fly the vehicle to land.
Only if you walk onto an already broken piece of ice, will your vehicle break the ice a second time and fall into the water.
Superweapons can make vehicles sink in ice, it is possible.
A rocket infantry can break ice early quickly to block vehicles. (2shots)
Sometimes the game starts with no ice, and the ice bridges form over time. This depends on the map you are playing.
If you land a tank on ice terrain with a Carryall, the ice terrain will not break. (maybe you could lure a multi missile by landing a MK2 on ice)
Enemy units can lure your vehicles to follow them onto ice and sink.
Ice Terrain heals in about 17 seconds even if a tank is sitting on top of it while the ice is broken.
The ice terrain only freezes back over in preset places on the map.
Two shots from most tanks will sink a vehicle in the ice terrain.
One Banshee will sink a tank on unbroken ice in one shot. (This is the best unit to sink vehicles in ice)
Subterranean APCs can not surface on a hill, they need flat ground to surface correctly.
Cliffs facing the north side of the map are the best for hiding units because they are blocked from aerial view. Their shadows are great for hiding units.
You can destroy the light on Tiberium Patches on some maps. The Mammoth MK2 does this sometimes. I'm not sure if it affects the Tiberium Regeneration Rate.
Some players think that if you shoot a Tiberium Tree it will produce more Tiberium.
The Subterranean APC and Devil Tongue will normally dive to the other side of a tunnel if it is a long tunnel. You can make the SubterraneanAPC and Devil Tongue drive through it, but the tunnel needs to be short in length.
Deployable vehicles sometimes can not deploy on cliff edges.
If you want to create a lot of green chemical missile fog when you kill the Orange Weed Vein Monster, use a Rocket Infantry, Tick Tank, Titan, Hover Mrls.
Move your mouse cursor across terrain, buildings, and cliffs edges to see if enemy units are trying to hide. Your mouse pointer will change when it scrolls over an enemy unit.
Lure units to other hiding units in the forest, behind buildings, in cliff shadows, or tunnel entrances. It is hard to hide units under a bridge, but you can set waypoints up in a tunnel to keep your units hidden under a tunnel.
Veteran Balance Maps have much thicker trees and vegetation. The trees on Veteran Balance maps can even hide a Mammoth MK2.
TIBERIUM WEED VEIN
The Orange Tiberium Weed Vein is not destroyable on some maps. (Giants map)
On some maps it is destroyable (SuperBBG map)
On maps with strong orange weed veins, the Weed Truck can become explosive if it is full. This can damage nearby units and structures nearby, if it is destroyed.
Orange Weed Veins will expand across the map destroying buildings, gates, laser fences posts.
Orange Weed even grows on pavement.
Walls are the only thing that can stop Orange Weed Vein from spreading across the map.
If you kill the Orange Weed Vein monster, the orange Weed will stop spreading across the map and start shrinking.
Orange Tiberium Weed Waste grows until you kill the Vein Monster. It can damage most vehicles and almost all buildings if it touches them.
Orange Tiberium Weed can be blocked with walls. It will grow over pavement and through Gates and Laser Fence posts. If you kill the vein monster the Orange Tiberium Weed will stop growing and start shrinking to nothing.
Orange Tiberium Weed kills Jump Jet Infantry and most tanks on top of it, but not Cyborgs or other soldiers, or the Hover Mrls.
Deployable vehicles sometimes can not deploy on cliff edges.
If you want to create a lot of green chemical missile fog when you kill the Orange Weed Vein Monster, use a Rocket Infantry, Tick Tank, Titan, Hover Mrls.
Orange Tiberium Waste Weed will eat into your Tiberium Patch, you might want to kill the Weed Vein Monster before this happens, especially if you are GDI. Just send a Jump Jet Infantry.
Orange Tiberium Weed can be blocked with walls. It will grow over pavement and through Gates and Laser Fence posts. If you kill the vein monster the Orange Tiberium Weed will stop growing and start shrinking to nothing.
Keeping Orange Tiberium Weed Vein Monsters on the map can be an advantage. Rushing tanks die on top of Orange Weed Vein, which can make defending your base easier. It might be wiser to figure out a way around the Orange Weed Vein and keep it alive and growing.
BRIDGES:
The Engineer will only heal a fully destroyed bridge, it will not go into the hut to heal the bridge if the bridge is just cracked.
A Ghost Stalker will attack the hut next to a bridge if you put the G.S. On waypoints with CNTL+ALT, but nothing will happen. (there is no tactical use for this trick except maybe to scare an enemy off a brigde.....maybe)
Bridges will mess up a CNTL force fire from the Mammoth MK2 or Ghost Stalker. You might want to avoid bridges with these units.(The weapon can shoot in a totally different direction than where you CNTL force fired!)
Artillery can destroy a bridge with Titans on it, from a distance. When the bridge is destroyed, the Titans ( or other units) on the bridge are also destroyed.
Artillery can accidently shoot a bridge if they are under it. Stay back from bridges with Artillery unless you are trying to hide your Artillery in the shadows.
You can not deploy a subterranean apc when it is directly under a bridge? (TEST)
Smaller maps usually have more intense rushing early with tanks and early emp cannons because they can reach the enemy base with it.
You can not deploy tanks on a bridge.
Heavy vehicles and run over infantry and kill them. Even the Harvester can do this using the ALT button to target the infantry to run them over.
Low Power = 50% building speed.
Do not deploy the artillery next to the area under a bridge, the artillery rounds can accidently hit the bridge instead of what you are targeting.
Four Rocket Infantry or Three Disc Throwers are enough to blow a bridge early. (Example: the bridge in Top Middle on Forest Fires map)
APCs can not deploy directly under a bridge.
Titans will destroy Tick Tanks on top of a bridge easier, because Tick Tanks can not deploy on a bridge.
You can't stop vehicles under a bridge with “S”. They will continue traveling under the bridge to the other side.
A good time to attack a base is if the enemy just sent all their Engineers to attack and don't have any Engineers left for defense. Try to always have at least 1 Engineer for defense.
A Carryall can float over a tank on a bridge (because it cant pick up units on a bridge even though it can drop them there.
You can not build on a bridge.
You can not build under a bridge, even if it is a broken bridge.
Destroy a bridge and put a tank under it where the bridge used to be. Now land a Carryall on the tank and heal the bridge with an Engineer. When you lift the tank it will magically appear on top of the bridge.
If you move the tank out from under a Carryall that is hovering over it on a bridge, the Carryall stays floating in the air. (Maybe this glitch could be used as anti air fodder on a bridge.)
You can hide near a bridge in the shadow of it or near the cliff edges where the bridge connects land masses.
A subAPC can not deploy under a bridge.
Pre-break a bridge at the 2 points nearest land. This way when the bridge breaks, the entire bridge will collapse and ALL the units on top of it will die. (This tactic works best on longer bridges because more units could possibly be on top.)
Try to land a Carryall on top of a vehicle repeatedly, and sometimes the Carryall will float in the air. Fi you move the tank or fire in different directions and then move the tank, the carryall will stay hovering in mid air. This might be useful as anti air fodder on a bridge. When you do this trick, your MK2 will not be able to “S”=stop because technically the Carryall is still targteting it for pickup on the brigde where it was last at.
2 Orca Bomber shots do not blow up a bridge.
